A series of Freedom of information requests by me to London authorities reveal that fire safety measures at care homes for elderly residents are not being thoroughly carried out. An example of public buildings other than residential not being properly monitored for fire risks. Sheltered accommodation can prove fatal for elderly residents many have not been checked for several years.

Fire risk assessments not carried out by landlords, training not given to staff, regulators too lax.

Research conclusion: Focus on fires in residential blocks has not meant increased awareness in other public buildings like care homes. London assembly launch an inquiry.
